Thanks for the post Ken. I have had cases where I got a company on a Google Local 10 pack... then on a 3 pack, then on a 1 pack. I think that was because the site became ab authority for the phrase it was hitting on locally. In my current case, I can find my local listing and if I specifically go to the "maps" section I am on top. But I'd rather be on the top of a 10 pack or a 3 pack. In the main index I rank #1 and #2 for the GEO + phrase and as you pointed out... the speculation that it was an algorithm glitch may be the case. When SEO Pundits complain that we are being hunted down and banned by Google I think that's all nonsense. Anyway thanks for your comments and have a great new year !! Cheers - Mal

This has been happening to a lot of companies who once appeared in the local listings now they have completely disappeared. In some industries, the map has disappeared altogether. There is a blog located here:
http://www.redefinedwebdesign.com/blog/google-local-listing-disappeared/
that talks about it in depth.

There is also a Google Forum thread located here:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/maps/thread?tid=19f4b0936485546a&hl=en#all
that shows a lot of other people who have experienced this same thing. It seems to be common in the Web Design and SEO fields.
